Classic Stationers is online storefront of Classic Engraving Ltd., an old time print shop still located in downtown Victoria, British Columbia, Canada continuing the tradition of fine engraved stationery that was produced there since 1934.

Originally founded by Frank Pengelley as The Empire Printers, this shop has been since 1977 under the direction of Alexander Lavdovsky, an artist and engraver who emigrated from his native Czechoslovakia bringing old world skills and tradition in fine printing.

Interested in producing the finest in engraved stationery, the company was renamed to Classic Engraving and quickly established a reputation of quality and respect from clients as well as the graphic arts community.

Custom engraved stationery and wedding invitations were soon expanded into production of note cards, embossed from hand made dies, regarded today to be some of the best embossed cards on the market.

Recent interest in traditional letterpress prompted to dust off old letterpress equipment and new lines of cards and products returned the letterpress printing to its former glory it had always deserved.

Exquisite stationery from Classic Stationers became a hallmark of prestige, elegance and style attracting many clients such as business executives, celebrities, governments, universities, as well as members of royal houses.

Poppy Press, a division of Classic Stationers, on the other hand, is specialized in limited edition books, printed by letterpress and illustrated by commissioned artists. The highest standards of content, design and production combined with fine art gives these collectible books timeless value.

Classic Stationers own all the equipment for producing fine stationery and limited edition books. Among many there is even a Chandler & Price letterpress platen build in 1885. Traditional skills combined with modern technology guarantees the highest quality and the in-house production offers countless flexibility in custom work.
